![]() The “Arkham City” in the title of the game is a new prison that’s been erected in Gotham City that encompasses much of the slums and otherwise run-down urban areas of the city. Arkham City’s plotline shares some similarities with that of Asylum’s, but with more than its fair share of twists. Once again, Paul Dini served as writer, and Mark Hammill continued his role of the Joker from Asylum. The second part of the original Batman: Arkham trilogy, Arkham City, was released in 2011 and takes place one year after the conclusion of the previous game. One of the new tools available to the player (i.e., newer than Batman’s standard-issue batarangs or grappling hook gun) is Detective Vision, which, when toggled on, highlights various points of interest within the environment, not unlike the Assassins’ “Eagle Vision” in the Assassin’s Creed game, for those familiar. Through a combination of stealth and combat, the player must navigate the asylum and search for a way to stop the Joker’s plans. At the same time, the Joker readies an arsenal of weapons to unleash upon the city, one of which being the neurotoxic chemical Titan. The crux of the game’s story is a plot by the Joker to trap Batman in the titular asylum with all of Gotham’s most dangerous criminals. Written by Paul Dini (a Batman veteran whose resume includes Emmy award-winning work on TV shows like Batman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, and Batman Beyond ), Arkham Asylum kicked off the Arkham series with its release in 2009.
